- @jeannevb I've learned that many of the motivations are similar with differences coming from reasoning. #scriptchat
- I've been working on an African-Am story for 8 years. Pink elephant in the room when I pitch is, "But you're white!" #scriptchat
- Obviously, I know I'm white, so I address that right away & speak to what the THEME is of the story & why it speaks to me. #scriptchat
- So, when writing outside of your area of comfort, what are some parts you struggle with? #scriptchat
- Relating to the theme is what helps us write outside our comfort zone on the specifics, whether it be genre, race, etc. #scriptchat
- For me in writing female leads, I tend to overthink a bit because I want to be certain to avoid stereotypes. #scriptchat
- If you can find a way to relate to the theme, then none of that matters & the writing will be organic. #scriptchat
- Really, outside of my comfort zone is the mundane because I find the mundane boring and something I wouldn't pay to see. #scriptchat

- Biggest problem with writing out of the comfort zone is just coming up with ideas... Don't do comedy. #scriptchat

- I find that wherever I live, I do not pay attention to my surroundings/details. Familiarity breeds dullness/no creative spark. #scriptchat
- I've noticed that I'll shift genres, but the core of what's there: characters in pain, unconventional families, etc remain #scriptchat

- (1) One good argument AGAINST leaving your comfort zone in the beginning is because you want to be confident to start out. #scriptchat

- (2) Not to say we should ALWAYS remain there, but when sticking with what you know, you're more likely to finish that first... #scriptchat

- I write small amounts every day. That way, I can't over think. I just put it down and go back to watching horror movies. #scriptchat

- You can't just back yoru stuff up. make sure you keep an organized computer so you know where everything is! #scriptchat

- I outline and other stuff, but can't really get going until I've found the perfect names for the main characters. #scriptchat

- I still use the free version of Celtx. Final Draft is way out of my reach at the moment. #scriptchat
