Scriptchat is thrilled to have screenwriting agent Babara (Babz) Bitela @nybabz guest on Sunday’s USA chat, January 30, 2011 at 5pm PST. Beyond being an agent, Babz has a great screenwriting podcast called Babz Buzz.
New York born Barbara Bitela has been a singer for more than thirty years and has experienced a variety of successes in the music business. Vocally trained since six (alto), she has appeared in amateur musicals and theater.
During the 70', bands she sang lead vocals, touring the tri-state area (NY, NJ and CT), and during the 80's, she joined original groups and did background vocal sessions: some include Jungle Love, released by RCA, United States and Uh-Oh! Plutonium.
She won First Place for the CNW/FFWA Florida State Competition (2006) and an Honorable Mention through the Sacramento Public Library (2004) for her touching story War Dogs, based on a few days in the life of a Viet Nam Vet.
With an extensive background in corporate public relations and during the 80’s, literally dozens of her press releases (written for composers who score feature films, television, etc.) have appeared in magazines like The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and the magazine section of the Los Angeles Times.
Much excitement surrounds Full Moon Morning: A Shanghai Survivor’s Story – (the adventures of one family in Shanghai and the resounding heroism and faith of a young boy during war time) – this is a true story based on the life of John Ludwig. The Art of Regifting has just been released.
Barbara is a full time WGA agent for screenwriters, married, has two beagles and still lives and works in Northern California traveling to Los Angeles to meet with various industry folks for her clients.
Join the chat and find out what an agent wants!
