@NamingJasonC: @teenierussell #scriptchat Yes, Maggie Smith's classic. Don't think Downton Abbey would that good without those classic one-liners.

@Bang2write: @teenierussell scriptwriters tend to overestimate dialogue; it sorts itself out as you sort out plot and character #scriptchat
December 2, 2012, 8:06 pm

@teenierussell: @NamingJasonC Also a lot of body language and looks rather than actual dialogue, yet so much is "said" #scriptchat
December 2, 2012, 8:07 pm

@vickyhinault: Hi #scriptchat What's everyone's most quotable/ favourite line from a movie?
December 2, 2012, 8:07 pm

@eising: @scriptchat How do you test dialogue, to see if it is natural to say? Saying it out aloud alone, or maybe with others? #scriptchat
December 2, 2012, 8:07 pm

@Bang2write: Very frequently writers will hold on to dud scenes that don't push the story forward simply cos there are some lines they like #scriptchat
December 2, 2012, 8:07 pm

@SiFoulaReel: Hi, I'm Simon, and I'm a scriptwriter who writes too much dialogue because I love it so much. This is #scriptchat anonymous, right?
December 2, 2012, 8:07 pm

@TaroJ: @teenierussell @namingjasonc agreed, it's often what's not said that is more important than what is #Scriptchat

@Bang2write: @KitReiner haha! Thanks for your honesty Kit. The first step is admitting you have a problem ;) #scriptchat
December 2, 2012, 8:09 pm

@ijoda07: @Bang2write And be ruthless. I reckon most dialogue can be cut by half at least. When you look closely, lots of its tautology. #scriptchat
December 2, 2012, 8:09 pm

@teenierussell: When doing a vomit draft I won't worry about dialogue, will write everything just to get the story on paper, then revise later #scriptchat
December 2, 2012, 8:09 pm

@TaroJ: @eising @scriptchat reading out loud is great. I hear table reads are very recommended but I've never done one, has anyone else? #Scriptchat

@teenierussell: Pilar A. did some great dialogue exercises during the LSWF. One of them was to write a monologue and then delete it bar 1 line. #scriptchat
December 2, 2012, 8:18 pm

@EvaKnoet: @teenierussell was that to get to the essence of it all? #scriptchat
December 2, 2012, 8:19 pm

@Perczynski: If you can split the dialogue of 2 persons and read only 1 character parts along and it still makes sense than it is wrong #scriptchat
December 2, 2012, 8:19 pm

@teenierussell: @EvaKnoet in most cases, the one line already contained the message, so no need to have lengthy monologues throughout a script #scriptchat
December 2, 2012, 8:21 pm

@NamingJasonC: Dialogue only really sorts itself out when you know your character so well 2 the point they tell YOU want it is they want to say #scriptchat
December 2, 2012, 8:21 pm

@NamingJasonC: @teenierussell #scriptchat Agree. A lot of (esp. English shows) tend 2 over, over talk rather than just relying on the look, the gesture etc
